Bangkok: A husband was apprehended after allegedly stabbing his wife over ten times with a knife, resulting in her death outside their room. The incident prompted a swift response from Bangmod police, leading to the arrest of the suspect, who had initially fled the scene.
According to Thai News Agency, the Bangmod Police Station detained Mr. Yutthanet, 27, following the fatal attack on his wife, Ms. Punyawee, 30, in a flat located on Soi Suk Sawat 2, Chom Thong Subdistrict, Chom Thong District, Bangkok. The crime occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. last night. Although Mr. Yutthanet attempted to escape into nearby grass, officers quickly captured him. Investigators discovered a 30-centimeter-long pocket knife and its sheath in a trash can about 100 meters from where the attack took place, aligning with the doctor’s findings of at least ten stab wounds on the victim’s body.
A neighbor recounted hearing a loud disturbance from the victim’s room while resting in his own. Upon opening his door, he witnessed Ms. Punyawee collapse outside her room, struggling to breathe, prompting him to call for assistance. During the ensuing commotion, the suspect managed to flee.
The victim’s brother noted that his younger brother was with the perpetrator and his 6-year-old daughter, the deceased’s stepdaughter, at the time. He explained that while he was at work, his girlfriend informed him of Ms. Punyawee arriving in tears and leaving the child with her. Ms. Punyawee then returned to her room, leaving the child with the brother’s girlfriend, who later discovered the tragic scene after returning from an errand. The brother was unaware of the duration of the couple’s relationship or the issues leading to the incident.
During initial questioning, Mr. Yutthanet confessed to the stabbing, citing that Ms. Punyawee often demeaned him. He revealed that an argument preceded the attack, during which he used a knife he carried to fatally wound her before escaping.
Authorities transferred the deceased’s body to Bang Mot Police Station to proceed with legal measures. The body was later sent to Siriraj Hospital’s Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy, before being handed over to relatives for religious rites at Wat Nak Nimit.
