Bangkok: Tourism Minister confirms budget is sufficient to organize MotoGP and F1, says it will generate huge income for the country, urges private sector cooperation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, discussed Thailand’s potential to host the MotoGP and Formula One (F1) competitions, expressing his desire for these events to take place. Discussions are ongoing with the MotoGP copyright holder to renew the contract. Additionally, recent meetings between F1 executives and the Prime Minister continued dialogues initiated during Mr. Settha Thavisin’s tenure as Prime Minister. The F1 executives emphasized the importance of proceeding carefully to preserve Thailand’s rights. Proposals regarding the stadium have been made without any issues, raising hopes for the simultaneous growth of the motorsport industry and sports tourism within a year.
Mr. Surawong addressed concerns about the budget, stating that while it is not a significant issue, increased involvement from the private sector is crucial. The sports are expected to generate substantial indirect income for the country, with direct benefits requiring private sector cooperation. He stressed that there is no budget problem, as annual costs are manageable. However, initial expenses may be higher, emphasizing the need for greater private sector engagement in future years.
