Treenuch Thianthong Appointed as New Leader of Palang Pracharath Party, Awaits Parliamentary Decisions on Ministerial Roles

Bangkok: Treenuch Thianthong has been appointed as the new leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, succeeding General Prawit Wongsuwan. She has committed to guiding the party forward, but has refrained from commenting on ministerial positions, stating that decisions will be made after the parliamentary process and the election of the prime minister are completed.

According to Thai News Agency, the Palang Pracharath Party held its 2026 Annual General Meeting, chaired by Treenuch Thianthong, the Minister of Labour and acting party leader, alongside party executives, acting MPs, and members. The primary agenda was the election of a new executive committee following General Prawit Wongsuwan's resignation as party leader prior to the election.

The meeting concluded with the appointment of Treenuch as the new party leader. Additionally, Yutthana Sritabutr was appointed as secretary-general, Oranuch Wainusit as treasurer, and Chatri Padungpong as party registrar. The party also announced five deputy leaders: Pakornthon Tienchai, Krasae Trakulpornphong, General Krisayothin Sasipattanawong, Police Lieutenant General Piya Tawichai, and Mom Luang Korkasivath Kasemsri.

The executive committee now includes seven members: Badi Thianthong, Paphasiri Sritabut, Korntap Trakulpornphong, Phitsanu Khlaichetdee, Prajak Prasongsuk, Anan Patayanon, and Noppawan Huajaiman. Treenuch emphasized that the election of the executive committee followed principles set by the Election Commission, which mandates the appointment within 60 days to ensure legal compliance and facilitate the party's activities.

In a post-meeting interview, Treenuch expressed her commitment to steering the party towards its goals and mentioned that they are open to joining the government to further their work. She indicated that once the parliamentary process clarifies, the party will reassess its direction.

Treenuch affirmed that General Prawit had left them with opportunities to advance the party's agenda. She mentioned that they could seek his advice on significant issues affecting the people. She reassured that the party's activities would continue with the support of 5 MPs, party members, and branches.

Regarding discussions on ministerial positions, Treenuch reiterated that due process must be observed, and they will await the conclusion of the parliamentary process and the prime minister's selection before making further decisions.
