Unseasonal Rain Triggers Flash Floods in Chaiyaphum, Residents Stranded

Chaiyaphum: Unseasonal rains in Chaiyaphum led to flash floods in the middle of the night, causing significant disruptions and safety concerns. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings about unstable weather conditions in upper Thailand and the upper South, with heavy rainfall predicted in some areas.

According to Thai News Agency, torrential rains on the Phang Hoei mountain range caused a rapid and violent surge of muddy red water to overflow the Huai Frang Bridge. This bridge is a key access route between Huai Frang Village, Village No. 4, and Dong Lan Village, Village No. 11, in Watabaek Subdistrict, Thep Sathit District. The floodwaters cut off the area, preventing vehicles from passing through.

The incident left a car with three people stranded on the median near a bridge for several hours. The travelers were heading from Bangkok to visit a family member in Ban Dong Lan when they were caught by the rising flash flood waters, making it impossible for them to reverse. The situation was tense as the car was parked just five meters from a steep cliff, a location where a flash flood had previously claimed a life during the last rainy season. Fortunately, the water level receded around 3 a.m., allowing the vehicle and its occupants to cross safely to the village.

The Meteorological Department continues to warn residents of the upper and upper southern regions of Thailand to be vigilant. The current weather instability is attributed to a strong monsoon trough passing through these regions, entering a low-pressure area over the central South China Sea. Additionally, easterly and southeasterly winds are affecting the northern and central parts, contributing to the ongoing heavy rain in certain areas.
