BANGKOK: Wat Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan has opened its doors for a unique New Year tradition, inviting Buddhists to participate in sacred chanting and the placement of "star plates" at the temple's Golden Mount. This event, which includes making wishes at nine sacred sites within the temple, aims to bring good fortune for the upcoming year.
According to Thai News Agency, the event, titled 'Wat Saket New Year's Eve Chanting 2568', will continue until January 5th. It welcomes visitors to pray and make wishes at various auspicious locations such as the Little Buddha, the Bodhi Tree, and the 2,000-year-old ancient Dharma Chedi. Participants also have the opportunity to enshrine their horoscope plates on Phu Khao Thong, symbolizing "High fortune all year, good fortune forever." These star plates will later be collected and cast into 'Luang Pho Duang Dee'.
In addition to the religious activities, the temple has organized a 'Check-in, Take Photos, Save the Environment' initiative, promoting the conservation of nature and wildlife. Visitors can enjoy taking photos at designated spots under the theme 'Save The Forest, Save The Wildlife'. The event also features food, drinks, and souvenirs from popular TikTok shops, with attendees encouraged to wear traditional Thai costumes while paying homage to the Buddha.
