Wisut Confirms Thaksin’s Presence in Thailand, Urges Against False News

Bangkok: Wisut Chainarun, the MP for the Pheu Thai Party list and chairman of the Government Coalition Coordination Committee, has confirmed that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is currently in Thailand. He urged the public to refrain from spreading false news and expressed confidence in the justice process.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wisut mentioned in an interview that there is no concern regarding the legal proceedings involving Mr. Thaksin, whose team trusts the justice system. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook to ensure the country's progress, stating that Mr. Thaksin's actions have been in line with the correct procedures.

Mr. Wisut dismissed any potential political impact, clarifying that Mr. Thaksin holds no ministerial position and is acting solely as the prime minister's father. He highlighted the role of Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra as the current prime minister, operating independently. Mr. Wisut acknowledged Mr. Thaksin's expertise and contributions to the country, suggesting that it is natural for the prime minister to seek his counsel, particularly in upcoming seminars.

Addressing concerns about the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), Mr. Wisut underscored Mr. Thaksin's past efforts in drug suppression. He argued that inviting Mr. Thaksin to advise on narcotics issues is beneficial and not disrespectful to the Prime Minister. Mr. Wisut advocated for the continuation of successful strategies to combat drugs, emphasizing the need for a positive perspective to drive national progress.
