Yakutsk Endures -45°C Cold Snap, Residents Continue Daily Activities

Yakutsk: The city of Yakutsk in the Siberian region of Russia's Far East experienced freezing temperatures of -45 degrees Celsius today, but residents said it wasn't as cold as the record-breaking extreme cold previously recorded.

According to Thai News Agency, residents of Yakutsk ventured out to shop at the city market amidst freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. Yesterday's temperature dropped to minus 45 degrees Celsius. However, many residents said it wasn't as cold as the city's previous record low of minus 55 degrees Celsius. They simply dressed warmly, appropriately for the weather, and enjoyed hot tea throughout the day to cope with the extreme cold.

Despite the freezing weather, everything continued as normal. Markets, shops, businesses, and public transportation in the city remained open. Only most schools and educational institutions were offering online learning to make it easier for students to avoid traveling through the cold from their homes to school.

Yakutsk, with a population of approximately 300,000, is known as one of the coldest major cities in the world. However, yesterday's weather wasn't the coldest in Russia, as the city that recorded the coldest temperature yesterday was Tatinsky Ulus in the Sakha Republic, with a temperature of -52 degrees Celsius.
