King and Queen to Award Medals of Bravery to Thai-Cambodian Border Forces

Bangkok: The King and Queen are preparing to award medals of bravery to soldiers, border patrol police, and rangers working on the Thai-Cambodian border, both individuals and units, to boost morale. The awards are expected to be completed in early September.

According to Thai News Agency, General Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense, addressed the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border. He stated that he would first address the morale of military, police, border patrol, and ranger personnel operating along the Thai-Cambodian border. His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen have been closely monitoring the situation and, in the case of losses, have provided assistance.

Recently, the Deputy Royal Secretary contacted the Ministry of Defense to inform them of His Majesty's concern about the awarding of the Medal of Valor. He asked how the process was proceeding. The Ministry of Defense is expediting the request for the medals to be awarded to the soldiers, border patrol police, and rangers participating in the operation. The criteria are similar to those for personnel operating in the three southern border provinces. Since there are a large number of personnel participating in the operation, the Ministry of Defense will compile and submit them all at once for royal approval. This is an expression of His Majesty's immense graciousness, showing His Majesty's concern for the personnel currently on the ground.

When asked what type of medals would be requested for the Royal Bravery Medal, General Nattapol stated that medals would be awarded at the Ramathibodi level and at all levels, depending on suitability and circumstances. However, due to the large number of personnel, he suggested two types of requests: individual medals for individuals who demonstrate outstanding bravery; and units that operate as a unit and demonstrate bravery, the Royal Bravery Medal at the Victory Flag level would be awarded to honor the entire unit. Currently, careful consideration is underway, ensuring that there are no issues that would offend His Majesty, as His Majesty has already bestowed them. Therefore, even though the process is rushed, careful consideration must be taken. The process is expected to be completed by early September.
