Bangkok: Wan Nor, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has announced the potential for electing a new prime minister on September 4-5. He has instructed the House Secretary to remain on standby to process requests from political parties for the Prime Ministerial vote. Wan Nor expects September 3rd to be too late, but highlights that September 4th or 5th are feasible dates, as members need to be notified one day in advance. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the country should not remain leaderless for an extended period due to the potential impact on confidence.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, addressed the procedures for the prime ministerial vote. He has designated the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives to facilitate proposals from political parties aiming to nominate a prime minister. Despite reports that the People's Party is holding a meeting today, Wan Nor personally believes September 3rd is too soon for a vote, as MPs require at least one day's notice. Thus, September 4th and 5th are the next realistic dates for the vote. The House of Representatives is prepared, having already scheduled meetings for September 3rd-5th, but an urgent vote by the House will be necessary to advance the agenda.
Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha stressed the need for a swift conclusion to the prime ministerial election to prevent the country from remaining without a leader for too long, which could undermine national confidence.
In the meantime, Police Lieutenant Colonel Aphat Sukhanan, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, confirmed that no political party has reached out to him regarding adding an agenda item for the prime ministerial election. However, the Speaker has ordered a standby period for September 3, 4, 5, and 10.
