Bangkok: The Prime Minister has issued directives for the army to take full measures to protect sovereignty after Cambodia opened fire on Phu Pha Lek. The incident has prompted the Prime Minister to closely monitor the situation in the Phu Pha Lek - Phlan Hin Paet Kon area, where Cambodian forces initiated gunfire. In response, the Prime Minister has ordered the army to ensure both sovereignty and the safety of the citizens, instructing governors to evacuate villagers along the border as per a rehearsed plan.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, confirmed the Cambodian side's attack in the Phu Pha Lek - Phlan Hin Paet Kon area. This aggression led the Second Army Region to retaliate, resulting in a continuous exchange of fire between the two sides.
"The Prime Minister is aware of and closely monitoring the situation. He has instructed the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces to take all necessary steps to protect sovereignty and ensure the safety of the people. He has also emphasized that provincial governors facilitate the evacuation of citizens to safe places and implement the rehearsals," stated Mr. Siripong.
The government spokesman further mentioned that residents in the four border provinces of Buri Ram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani have been advised to evacuate to shelters as per the evacuation plan. Local authorities remain vigilant, monitoring the situation closely as the potential for escalation continues.
