Chiang rai: The Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) made an urgent trip to Chiang Rai to receive four Thai nationals who are fugitives wanted on arrest warrants. These individuals are accused of major drug trafficking and fraud, with warrants issued by Myanmar authorities.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Suriya Singhakamol, the ONCB Secretary-General, was accompanied by Mr. Supoj Saenmee, Deputy Governor of Chiang Rai Province, and representatives from various local and international law enforcement agencies. The delegation visited the Second Friendship Bridge in Chiang Rai Province, where they coordinated efforts for the extradition.
The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Immigration Bureau, Chiang Rai Provincial Police, Royal Thai Police, Northern Border Provinces Narcotics Suppression and Precursor Drug Control Command, Pha Muang Task Force, and the Customs Department. International cooperation was also crucial, with support from Myanmar's Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control and the Chiang Rai Immigration Police.
The suspects were divided into two groups. Group 1 includes Mr. Phonchana, 33, from Uttaradit Province, and Mr. Wirat, 37, from Chiang Mai Province, both wanted for methamphetamine-related charges. Group 2 involves Ms. Thida, wanted for fraud, and Mr. Cherdchai, who has a previous drug-related criminal record.
The ONCB Secretary-General expressed gratitude to Myanmar authorities for their cooperation in addressing transnational crime. He highlighted the importance of continued collaboration among enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety.
