Thailand Unites 39 Nations to Combat Global Online Scams

Bangkok: Thailand has taken a significant step in the global fight against cybercrime by co-hosting the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The conference, held from December 17-18, 2025, at the InterContinental Hotel Bangkok, seeks to enhance international cooperation and share best practices to effectively prevent and suppress online scams. Representatives from 39 countries have gathered to participate in this crucial event.

According to Thai News Agency, the first day of the conference featured high-level discussions, with ministerial-level representatives and ambassadors from various countries expressing their commitment to combating online crime. Afternoon sessions delved into critical issues such as improving investigations into transnational organized crime, disrupting financial networks linked to criminal activities, and monitoring advanced technologies used by these groups.

On the second day, participants are expected to adopt a pivotal 'Joint Statement' that will underscore the collective political commitment to establish a sustainable global partnership against online scams. This document will summarize the discussions and pave the way for future initiatives. Countries signing the Joint Statement may also consider hosting subsequent international meetings and propose initiatives to bolster cooperation in tackling online crime.

The conference has attracted widespread international attention, with high-profile delegates such as Hon. Vincent Biruta from Rwanda, HE Major General Aung Kyaw Kyaw from Myanmar, and HE Mr. Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir from Indonesia, among others. Representatives from key countries, including India, China, and South Sudan, as well as ambassadors from Morocco, Spain, New Zealand, and several other nations, are in attendance. The European Union and director-general-level representatives from Australia, Poland, the Philippines, and South Korea are also participating, highlighting the global scale of the initiative.

"This meeting reflects the global community's response and emphasizes the cooperation platform hosted by Thailand, initiated by the Prime Minister, to jointly drive concrete and serious solutions to online scams globally," stated Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office. He emphasized the importance of building a robust international cooperation network to protect citizens worldwide from cyber threats.
