Bangkok: Amidst the challenges of the modern world, businesses and communities alike are adapting to ensure continuity amidst rapidly changing economic, social, and environmental factors. The SCG Community Welfare Project was created to develop the potential of communities across Thailand, aiming to foster participatory growth by leveraging local resources, traditional wisdom, and promoting life and vocational skills. This initiative has resulted in the emergence of new occupational models and collaborative groups with the potential for sustainable expansion.
According to Thai News Agency, one such success story is Mae Dari, located in the Wang Chin District of Phrae Province. "Mae Dari" Chittanan Panna has witnessed the struggle of elderly individuals who rely on expensive medicines from urban centers. Motivated by this, Mae Dari gathered traditional healers to create herbal remedies from local teak trees. This initiative led to the development of the muscle-relieving massage oil "Widow's Tears," a product rooted in both community spirit and traditional wisdom.
Through participation in the welfare project, Mae Dari expanded her knowledge of household herbs into "Dari Organic Herbs." This brand not only provides income for the elderly but also restores the dignity associated with traditional folk wisdom. What started in a small home kitchen has now become a renowned product of Phrae, consistently selling out at trade fairs, showcasing how new opportunities can arise from age-old wisdom.
