Milan: Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and President of the World Badminton Federation, has joined forces with prominent global sports leaders to advocate for enhanced road safety worldwide. The collaboration, which includes notable figures like Gianni Infantino, Lord Sebastian Coe, and David Lapartient, aims to harness the influence of sports to promote road safety initiatives on a global scale. According to Thai News Agency, Khunying Patama participated in the United Nations Road Safety Leadership Roundtable held recently in Milan, Italy. This event was organized by the Office of the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Road Safety, led by Jean Todt and supported by Michelle Yeoh, in her role as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme. The roundtable served as a platform for exchanging views among high-level leaders from various sectors. The meeting gathered influential personalities from the international sports commun ity, government, and private sector, alongside IOC representatives. Attendees included Prince Albert II of Monaco, Thomas Bach, Naval El Mutavácl, and Christophe de Kepper, as well as presidents of sports federations and IOC members like Gianni Infantino, Lord Sébastien Coe, and David Lapartient. Additionally, leaders from international organizations, such as Luis Alberto Moreno and Eugenio Patane, participated in the discussions, focusing on sustainable transport and travel. Khunying Patama emphasized that the forum was designed to assess advancements in road safety efforts and explore opportunities for cross-sectoral and international collaboration. The objective is to translate commitments into concrete actions to reduce road accident fatalities globally. The forum highlighted the significance of road safety as a shared global challenge, necessitating leadership and cooperation from all sectors to ensure continuous progress towards creating a safer society. Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul has previously do nated over 1,000 helmets to students under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and is committed to continuing her support for other projects. She also plans to donate helmets to countries facing shortages, in order to contribute to road safety.
