Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul Dismisses Coalition Polls, Awaits MP Certification

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has dismissed recent opinion polls suggesting a coalition should be formed solely with the Pheu Thai Party, stating he will await clearer figures on the number of Members of Parliament (MPs) before making any decisions. He emphasized that he is not in a rush to form a government, expressing confidence that the current transitional period will not disrupt governmental operations.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the results of the NIDA poll, which indicated that a majority of the public supports a coalition exclusively with the Pheu Thai Party. He remarked that the government is open to all perspectives and that there is still ample time to make informed decisions.

The Prime Minister explained that any actions taken must be based on clear and certain information. He noted that last week saw the certification of 396 constituency MPs, and he expects the remaining MPs, particularly those on the party-list system, to be certified soon. Anutin highlighted that he is not currently an MP due to the ongoing certification process. He stressed that it is premature to make any decisions until the exact number of MPs is confirmed, advocating for adherence to established procedures.

When questioned about the urgency of forming a government to address national issues, Anutin assured that the current administration is actively working on the country's problems during this transitional phase. He expects continuity in governance without any disruptions. Anutin emphasized that all government sectors are cooperating effectively and that there is no need to wait for a new government to take over. The ongoing work of the government continues without any standstill or interruption.
