Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt Remains Silent on Re-Election Plans

Bangkok: Chatchart keeps quiet on running for a second term, insisting that if he continues, he will remain an independent candidate. He affirms that his policies are already prepared. Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt opened up about his political future before his term ends on May 21, 2026, stating that he is not in a hurry to decide whether to run for re-election, as he still has a month left to perform his duties to the best of his ability. However, he admitted that he has prepared some policies for the future, particularly a new city plan, with his team helping to brainstorm ideas. In this final push, he will focus on clearing outstanding issues and continuing his work in the field as he has done for the past three years, before making a clear announcement at the appropriate time.

According to Thai News Agency, regarding his candidacy, Mr. Chatchart firmly affirmed that if he decides to continue, he will remain an "independent" candidate. He believes in working without political party affiliation, which allows for smoother coordination with all parties, regardless of which party the Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMA) members come from. He also took this opportunity to campaign for Bangkok residents to consider electing qualified and transparent BMA councilors, as they are a crucial mechanism to help the next Bangkok governor work effectively and truly address the city's development needs.
