Bangkok: The Red Shirt group showed their support for Thaksin Shinawatra as they gathered to express their backing ahead of his anticipated parole and release on May 11. Over 2,000 people are expected to take part in the event on May 10.
According to Thai News Agency, the rally saw Red Shirt supporters, known as RED Never dies, led by Dr. Prayoon Krongyot and a committee of 11 individuals, who took turns delivering speeches on stage. The speeches focused on Thaksin's past achievements and detailed the activities planned for the gathering on May 10, preceding his parole the following day.
The gathering will commence as participants start assembling between 2 PM and midnight to welcome Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra. Attendees are advised to arrive earlier, between 3 AM and 4 AM, to ensure easier access to the area. Some supporters are planning to camp overnight in front of the prison, where facilities such as fans and mobile toilets will be available.
In preparation for the event, coordination with relevant officials has been made to manage the area and facilitate traffic around Klong Prem Prison. Two designated parking areas have been arranged: buses will park on Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road towards Chatuchak, and vans will park at Wat Semian Nari.
