Buriram: The Royal Thai Army has clarified that a recent incident involving Cambodian soldiers allegedly entering Thai territory in Buriram province was a misunderstanding.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Army explained that villagers had misinterpreted the situation after encountering individuals they believed to be Cambodian soldiers in the Chan Thap Phet Subdistrict, Ban Kruat District. Major General Winthai Suvari, the army spokesperson, stated that the individuals were actually Thai citizens who were communicating in Cambodian while foraging in the forest. The incident, which occurred near the Satho 3 Dam, was investigated by the 2nd Army Area Command and determined to be a misunderstanding.
The Royal Thai Army emphasized that in border areas, it is common for people to speak both Thai and Cambodian for communication. The initial reports of gunfire and an armed confrontation were unfounded, as there is no evidence to support such claims. The army urged the public and media to verify information thoroughly before disseminating it to avoid unnecessary panic and misunderstandings.
The clarification aims to address concerns and ensure accurate information is shared, highlighting the importance of due diligence in reporting incidents along border areas.
