Thai Citizens Detained by Cambodian Soldiers on Immigration Charges Receive Urgent Assistance

Bangkok: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urgently assisting Thai citizens detained by Cambodian soldiers on charges of illegal immigration. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms it is providing assistance in the case of Thai citizens detained and prosecuted by Cambodian soldiers for illegal entry in Udon Meanchey province. This includes coordinating with lawyers and contacting relatives.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed that the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh is monitoring the situation and providing assistance regarding the detention of a Thai citizen residing in Surin Province by Cambodian soldiers on April 16th on charges of illegal entry. She stated that this is an issue that can occur frequently. The Thai citizen is currently being prosecuted under Cambodian law in Oddar Meanchey Province. Further updates, such as information regarding repatriation, will be provided as they become available.

The Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide consular assistance to the Thai national, such as facilitating legal representation, contacting relatives in Thailand, and providing food.
