Funeral Ceremony Held for Soldier Killed in Narathiwat Bomb Attack

Narathiwat: The funeral rites for Sergeant Adisorn Khambunchuey, who died in a bomb attack in Waeng District, were held at Wat Bang Nara in Mueang District, Narathiwat Province. The Commander of the 4th Army Region, Lieutenant General Norathip Poynok, presided over the ceremony and paid respects to the fallen soldier. Sergeant Khambunchuey was a member of the 1106th Ranger Company, 11th Ranger Regiment Task Force, and was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) while on duty.

According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony included the presentation of the "Bang Rachan Medal," a certificate of honor, and initial financial assistance for burial expenses to support the family of the soldier. Additional compensation was provided, including 500,000 baht from Narathiwat province, a royal consolation payment of 30,000 baht from the Sai Jai Thai Foundation, and 5,000 baht from the Narathiwat Provincial Red Cross. The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPC) also provided initial support.

Following the ceremony, Sergeant Adisorn Khambunchuey's body was transported to his hometown in Pho Chai Subdistrict, Khok Pho Chai District, Khon Kaen Province for traditional funeral rites with full honors. Authorities are actively investigating the attack, gathering evidence, and reviewing CCTV footage to track down those responsible.

The attack also resulted in injuries to two other officers, Sergeant Major Komkrit Rittiphai and Private First Class Pongsakorn Saenbunmee, along with three civilians who were wounded by shrapnel. The incident occurred while the officers were patrolling the Suai Go-lok - Waeng road to ensure public safety. The IED was detonated by perpetrators concealed in the forest, causing the fatal explosion.
