Bangkok: Rear Admiral Anudith Nakornthap, Deputy Leader of the Kla Tham Party, has voiced strong criticism against the government for its decision not to request Parliament to reconsider the constitutional amendment draft that was dismissed following the dissolution of the previous Parliament. Anudith emphasized that the voices of 21.6 million citizens, who have already expressed their desire for a new constitution through a referendum, should not be ignored.
According to Thai News Agency, the government justified its decision by stating that the draft originated from the prior Parliament, which was characterized by conflict. They suggested that the new Parliament should initiate a fresh motion. However, Rear Admiral Nakornthap argued that the government is shifting the burden and neglecting its responsibility to pursue constitutional amendments, particularly since it was the government that initially proposed the referendum. He urged the government to act sincerely and propose the amendment independently, rather than deferring it to the new Parliament.
Anudith also highlighted the need to eliminate the current requirement of Section 256, which mandates the approval of at least one-third of the Senators, or 67 individuals, to amend the Constitution. He stressed that laws should serve the people and not be instruments for creating political gridlock.
Additionally, citizens were encouraged to vigilantly observe the voting behaviors of both Members of Parliament and Senators to identify who aligns with the populace and who hinders the people's will.
