Uthai thani: Police from the Central Investigation Bureau, in a joint operation, intercepted a pickup truck smuggling 15 undocumented foreign workers. The Thai driver confessed to being hired to pick up the foreign workers in Kamphaeng Phet province and transport them to Uthai Thani province for a fee of 1,000 baht per person.
According to Thai News Agency, the Central Investigation Bureau police were involved in a joint operation that successfully intercepted a human trafficking ring smuggling migrant workers. During the operation, the smugglers attempted to flee in a pickup truck and led the authorities on a pursuit for over 20 kilometers. The chase ended when the truck collided with a police vehicle on Highway 3221 in Don Khwang Subdistrict, Mueang Uthai Thani District, Uthai Thani Province.
As a result of the operation, sixteen suspects were apprehended, including one Thai national and 15 Myanmar nationals. In addition to making arrests, authorities seized a pickup truck and two mobile phones. The Thai nationals arrested admitted to being hired to transport the foreign nationals from Kamphaeng Phet Province to Uthai Thani Province for a fee of 1,000 baht per person.
The police have charged the suspects and taken them to the Uthai Thani City Police Station for further legal proceedings. This operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and the smuggling of undocumented workers within the region.
