Bangkok: Free parking is available at all train stations nationwide to facilitate passengers on long-distance trains and the Red Line. The initiative will remain in place until June 22, 2026, as part of efforts to support the rail system.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), under the Ministry of Transport, is implementing the government's policy to promote travel by rail public transport. This move aims to reduce the country's energy consumption amid a volatile global energy situation. Free parking is being offered to facilitate users of long-distance trains and the Red Line from today until June 22, 2026.
Ms. Ploytalay further explained that the State Railway of Thailand has designated Bangkok Central Station as a 'Model Station for Energy Conservation.' This initiative seeks to increase energy efficiency, cope with the global energy situation, and align with the government's focus on efficient energy use in supporting public rail transport. Passengers traveling on long-distance trains and the Red Line will benefit from specific measures, including free parking.
Passengers using Bangkok Central Station, also known as Apiwat Station, can park their personal vehicles in the underground parking lot. By presenting their round-trip tickets and a parking pass, they can avail of free parking at one of the five information counters located at gates 1, 4, 10, 13, and in front of the passenger lounge on the 1st floor. Currently, parking fees are charged at this location.
For other train stations across the nation, passengers can bring their vehicles and contact the respective train station to request free parking services. The government is encouraging the public to utilize rail-based public transportation systems. Besides reducing the use of private vehicles, this initiative is expected to save energy and alleviate pollution problems.
