Bangkok: The Ministry of Finance has announced a significant milestone for the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" initiative, reporting an unprecedented registration rate of 700,000 people per second at 6:05 AM. By midday, approximately 7.5 million registration slots were still available. The program provides vouchers that can be utilized for transportation services such as the BTS, MRT, electric trains, and taxis. Registrations for delivery services will commence on June 10th, with vouchers becoming active from June 15th.
According to Thai News Agency, the Director of the Fiscal Policy Office, Mr. Vinit Visetsuwannapoom, provided an overview of the registration process for the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" project on its first day. He highlighted that public interest was considerable from 6:00 AM onward. Compared to the earlier "Half-Half" initiative, which saw 5 million registrations in the initial 30 minutes, this program achieved 10 million registrations in the same timeframe. Despite initial technical challenges, the registration process stabilized after 6:17 AM. By noon, more than 22 million slots were filled, leaving about 7.5 million slots open.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance noted that many registrants faced issues related to forgotten passwords on the Paotang app and the need to re-download the app due to phone changes. Verification is possible via mobile, but many opted for bank assistance due to unfamiliarity with the process. Two verification options are available: immediate verification for existing users and a three-day wait for those reinstalling the app.
The Ministry of Finance also urged businesses to register on the "Thung Ngern" app, citing the potential for increased sales and customer engagement. Currently, 977,000 businesses have registered, with the total expected to surpass 1.01 million, pending confirmations. The registration process for new businesses is straightforward and available at any Krung Thai Bank branch. However, thorough checks are in place to prevent violations, as past infractions by about 300 businesses led to criminal charges.
Addressing tax concerns for business owners, Mr. Vinit explained that taxes are calculated based on profits, which are typically minimal and averaged annually. Small businesses earning less than 26,000 baht per month in profit will not be taxed.
Mr. Vinit emphasized that "Thai Helps Thai Plus" aims to alleviate living costs and support economic stability. The "Thai Helps Thai Plus 60:40" scheme allows users to pay less, with the government covering 60% of costs. This initiative, starting June 1, 2026, will be applicable to various transportation and delivery services. The system is being phased in to ensure compatibility, and State Welfare Card holders will receive an increased allowance without needing to register for the program.
