Prasert Urges Immediate Action on Children’s Social Media Addiction and Attention Deficit Disorder

Bangkok: Prasert Chantarawong, the Minister of Education, has voiced concerns regarding the increasing issue of children's addiction to social media and the resulting attention deficit disorder. He highlighted the urgency of addressing this matter to prevent further societal impacts.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasert emphasized that excessive use of social media by children is leading to a significant decrease in their ability to concentrate on specific activities. Research indicates that Thai children are spending an extensive amount of their time on social media platforms. The minister clarified that the issue is not the fault of the children or the platforms themselves but is a broader challenge posed by the digital age.

Mr. Prasert stated that the Ministry of Education is treating this challenge as an urgent priority to ensure a promising future for Thai children. The proposed solution involves a dual approach: adopting educational models from other countries to protect young children whose brains are still developing, and educating older children on digital skills and proper use of technology, including artificial intelligence. Mr. Prasert also mentioned plans to collaborate with relevant agencies to address platform security concerns, such as enforcing age restrictions for content viewing.
