New delhi: The Dalai Lama is preparing to undergo knee treatment in New Delhi. The Dalai Lama's office revealed on Thursday that the 90-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader is scheduled to undergo medical treatment for his left knee in New Delhi later this month, amid several age-related health issues. He will depart from Dharamsala, a Himalayan town in India where he has been in exile, on Friday, heading towards the capital.
According to Thai News Agency, in recent years, devotees concerned about his health have often organized large prayer ceremonies before he undergoes medical treatment. The statement, delivered via the X platform, further indicated that after completing treatment for his left knee, the Dalai Lama is scheduled to travel to India's Ladakh region at the end of June for an extended stay.
The spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate underwent surgery on the same knee in New York City in 2024. He later stated in an interview that the condition was not serious, although he still requires caution, assistance with support, and uses a golf cart for long-distance travel within his residence.
