Government’s Eye Screening Project Provides Eyeglasses to Over 14,000 Children

Bangkok: The first seven months of the children's eyeglasses project have yielded positive results, with over 40,000 people screened and more than 14,000 receiving eyeglasses. The government is advancing efforts in eye screening and providing eyeglasses for children, demonstrating the success of the first seven months of fiscal year 2026. The initiative has seen the implementation of 205 projects, screening over 40,000 children, and providing eyeglasses to over 14,000 children.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that the government is fostering cooperation to promote health and prevent disease at the community level. This collaboration involves local administrative organizations (LAOs) in designing and executing projects that align with the health issues of the people in their regions. Consequently, concrete health projects are being developed and executed, tailored to the needs and problems of the local population, ensuring comprehensive and timely access to healthcare.

Ms. Ploytalay stated that the government, through the National Health Security Office (NHSO) and the Local Health Security Fund (LHSF) of LAOs, is maintaining its collaboration on the "Eye Screening and Eyeglasses Service Project for Children." The project aims to address health problems directly affecting children's quality of life and learning, reduce disparities in access to healthcare, and create opportunities for Thai children to grow up healthily across the country. She revealed that during the first seven months of the 2026 fiscal year (October 1, 2025, to April 21, 2026), 205 LAOs nationwide had implemented the project, providing eye screening services to over 42,539 students and assisting 14,025 children with vision problems by supplying eyeglasses. This effort has reduced the impact on learning and increased educational opportunities for Thai children.

Ms. Ploytalay emphasized that the government prioritizes comprehensive development, especially among youth who will be the nation's future. She noted that proactive measures to detect vision problems early and ensure children receive appropriate eyeglasses not only improve their vision but also enhance educational opportunities, boost their confidence, and support their full potential.
