Bangkok: The weather department has reported an 8.2 magnitude earthquake occurring in Mindanao, Philippines. The earthquake, recorded at 06:37 AM on June 8, 2026, was detailed in a statement from the Thai Meteorological Department.
According to Thai News Agency, the statement, signed by Ms. Sukanyanee Yawinchan, Director-General of the Meteorological Department, indicated that the earthquake occurred at coordinates 5.60 degrees North and 125.065 degrees East. The depth was recorded at 35 kilometers. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a slightly lower magnitude of 7.8.
The Thai Meteorological Department assured that the incident will not impact Thailand. Further information is expected to be released by the department as it becomes available.
