According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. local time on Sunday in the New Jersey Transit corridor and near the Amtrak station inside Penn Station. A suspect indiscriminately stabbed people with a knife. The New York Fire Department reported five people were injured, one critically, two moderately, and the rest minorly. All were taken to Bellevue Hospital. Amtrak officers apprehended the male suspect at the scene and seized the knife used in the attack. Security sources told CBS that it was a random attack and that the perpetrator appeared to have serious mental health issues, with no indication of terrorism.
This incident occurred just one day before Madison Square Garden, located atop Penn Station, was scheduled to host Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs today (June 8).
