Thai Industries Urge Action on Post-Flood Waste Management

Prachinburi:The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is calling for immediate actions to support the manufacturing sector and manage toxic waste effectively to avert a potential health crisis.

According to Thai News Agency, the FTI chairman has expressed his primary concern over the waste resulting from floods, particularly in Prachinburi, where chemicals have been leaking with floodwaters.

Ms. Pimjai Leeissaranukul, President of the FTI, highlighted that although floodwaters have receded, their effects are extensive, impacting the public and the production sector, including factories, machinery, and labor mobility. The FTI is actively gathering damage reports from its members to accurately assess the impact and provide tailored assistance to affected businesses. In the short term, the focus is on helping businesses reopen quickly by supporting workers, ensuring access to capital, restoring facilities, expediting insurance claims, and managing environmental impacts post-flood. Additionally, there is an emphasis on preparing preventative measures and early warning systems to help the industrial sector deal with future challenges.

The FTI is particularly concerned about waste management and the environmental conditions following the floods. They urge relevant agencies to prioritize managing industrial waste to prevent adverse effects on the environment and public health, especially in Prachinburi and other affected regions.
