Prasert Chantharawongthong Discusses Political Dynamics Amidst Anutin’s Dinner with Thammanat

Bangkok:Prasert Chantharawongthong, Minister of Education and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed concerns regarding a recent dinner between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Captain Thamanat Promphao, leader of the Kla Tham Party. The meeting raised questions about potential political implications and the effect on government dynamics.

According to Thai News Agency, Prasert downplayed the significance of the dinner, emphasizing that Anutin and Thammanat are familiar with each other, and such gatherings are not uncommon. He highlighted that Anutin's sociable nature often leads to dining with various individuals, and the Pheu Thai Party's ministerial quotas remain unaffected by these interactions.

Prasert was questioned about potential political ramifications, including rumors of a party merger or changes to the government post-no-confidence debate. He clarified that any decisions regarding such matters rest with Anutin, as head of the government. He assured that Pheu Thai's functioning and ministerial allocations, comprising five ministries and eight positions, would remain stable.

Regarding the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle affecting Pheu Thai's positions, Prasert expressed that it was premature to speculate on such outcomes. He also stated that the party is prepared to address issues raised in the no-confidence debate, with ministers ready to respond if specific ministries are mentioned.

On the topic of voting integrity, Prasert assured that Pheu Thai's votes would remain unified, reflecting their role as a coalition partner and adherence to political etiquette. He also commented on the opposition's request for a five-day no-confidence debate, supporting a three-day duration as sufficient based on past experiences and the need for an additional day dedicated to voting.
