Thai Government Unites Ministries to Boost Economy Through Cultural and Tourism Initiatives

Accra:The government is set to integrate three ministries under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Ms. Supajee Suthamphan, to enhance Thai products, soft power, and tourism. This initiative aims to create added value and distribute income to communities, capitalizing on opportunities from hosting significant global financial meetings.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the government is advancing efforts to leverage economic opportunities from the 2026 annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. Ms. Supajee has instructed the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to collaborate in integrating tourism, trade, and cultural sectors to create added value for Thai goods and services and expand business opportunities.

The Ministry of Commerce is tasked with accelerating the development of Thai products, building brands, and expanding market channels both locally and internationally. Efforts include promoting intellectual property use and developing IP Finance to enhance business opportunities, particularly for unique community products like Thai fabrics and traditional woven textiles.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture will focus on harnessing cultural capital and creative industries, including performing arts and Muay Thai, to boost international recognition and commercial development. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will integrate Thai cultural identity into tourism promotions, taking advantage of the MICE business to stimulate spending and income generation.

Ms. Supajee emphasized the importance of continued cooperation among the ministries beyond the IMF-World Bank meetings to ensure tangible outcomes, such as developing products and services and expanding markets. The goal is to transform global opportunities into real economic benefits for Thai citizens, extending the impact of hosting world-class events to trade, investment, and tourism, thus enhancing Thailand's long-term competitiveness.
