Ayutthaya:A 66-year-old man caused a disturbance at a temple in Ayutthaya province by firing a blank-firing gun during a funeral ceremony. The incident occurred at Wat Kai temple in Bang Pahan District, where the man, identified as Mr. Somnuk, was reportedly intoxicated. No injuries were reported as villagers quickly intervened to subdue him.
According to Thai News Agency, the motive behind Mr. Somnuk's actions may be linked to dissatisfaction over a neighbor's social media post regarding the inconvenience caused by road repairs. Police from Bang Pahan Police Station and officials from the Ayutthaya Ruam Jai Association responded to the scene after hearing a loud sound similar to a gunshot.
Witnesses recounted that Mr. Somnuk, after being invited to the funeral, became agitated and left the event. He later returned and fired a blank gun, claiming he had no intention of harming anyone. The gun was confiscated by authorities, who are now investigating the incident further to ascertain if the conflict was related to the road repair dispute.
Police have charged Mr. Somnuk with disorderly conduct, acknowledging the fear and disturbance caused by his actions. After sobering up, Mr. Somnuk apologized to his neighbors, admitting that his intoxication led to a loss of control. He expressed remorse and vowed not to consume alcohol again.
