Bangkok:Thai Airways has issued a travel advisory for passengers due to disruptions caused by Typhoon Champi, which is affecting flight routes to Taipei and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The typhoon, categorized as a Category 5 storm, is currently advancing through the Philippine Sea and is expected to move towards Taiwan and the Okinawa Islands in southern Japan. The exact trajectory of the storm is still uncertain.

In response to the impending weather conditions, Thai Lion Air has announced the cancellation of several flights. The affected routes include flights between Kaohsiung and Okinawa, as well as those traveling from Don Mueang to Taipei, Narita, and Osaka on October 22 and 23, 2026. Passengers on these routes are advised to check for updates and plan accordingly.

Taiwanese media have also reported that, despite the weakening of the storm as it nears land, severe weather is expected on October 23 and 24. This will likely result in heavy rain and strong winds, particularly impacting coastal regions and maritime activities in Taiwan and southern Japan.
