According to Thai News Agency, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, former Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party (RTSP), expressed his condolences over the incident involving the collapse of a concrete beam and crane at the Rama II Road construction site. The collapse, which occurred during the welding of concrete beams for the Special Highway No. 82, resulted in several casualties among workers. Thanakorn emphasized the necessity for contractors engaged in large projects to have specialized experience and operate under constant engineering supervision. He asserted tha
t contractors must accept full responsibility when accidents cause fatalities and injuries.
Thanakorn highlighted the benefits of working with large contractors, citing their extensive construction experience compared to newer contractors, who might lack such expertise. He stressed the importance of heightened caution and stringent work supervision by engineers, especially during the 14-day period designated for clearing the collapsed beam area. This increased vigilance is crucial to prevent future accidents.
Thanakorn commended Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, for his prompt inspection and implementation of remedial actions. He supported the decision to downgrade the contractor’s special class status, acknowledging the mistake’s significant impact. Thanakorn noted improvements in traffic management along the route to the South and tourist areas in the lower central region, which have seen reduced congestion. He expressed confidence that with stricter measures,
the project could meet its 2025 completion target as announced by Mr. Suriya.
