Bangkok: In a decisive move to combat the illegal e-cigarette trade, Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra has urged the Treasury and Customs Departments to intensify their efforts following a recent raid on an e-cigarette warehouse. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for strict enforcement of existing laws and border controls to prevent future imports, asserting that these efforts will not cease.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister conveyed her determination through a social media post after a meeting at the Thai Khu Fah Building. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Director-General of the Customs Department Mr. Thirach Attanavanich, and other relevant officials. During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of expanding the crackdown to include additional masterminds and shipping companies involved in the illegal trade, stressing that offenders will face clear consequences.
The Prime Minister called for the enforcement of legal measures and the sealing of border areas, which will require the cooperation of security agencies, including the military, police, DSI, and Consumer Protection Board officials. These entities are tasked with gathering intelligence and preventing new imports. The government is committed to these proactive measures as part of its ongoing efforts to address the e-cigarette issue.
