Bangkok: Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, has announced that the decision concerning the appointment of a new minister to oversee the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will be discussed in the cabinet tomorrow. This comes after Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, the current Minister of Justice, was ordered by the court to temporarily cease his duties.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chusak emphasized that he will explore the details regarding the appointment tomorrow, highlighting that both the creation of a new agency or appointing a replacement minister are viable options. He noted that in situations where a minister is unable to fulfill their duties, typically due to travel or other reasons, a replacement is usually appointed, but the Ministry of Justice has not yet done so in this case. Additionally, Mr. Chusak mentioned the possibility of a direct appointment to oversee the agency as per the court's instructions.
Regarding the impact on the DSI's operations, Mr. Chusak stated that it would not hinder the department's ongoing work. The DSI, he assured, is continuing with its responsibilities unaffected by the current situation.
Mr. Chusak concluded by stating that no final decision has been made about who will be appointed as the new overseer. He remained non-committal about whether he would take on the role, reiterating that discussions will take place tomorrow.
