Chanthaburi: The Chanthaburi Marine Corps Task Force has announced the temporary suspension of entry and exit at the Ban Laem-Ban Pakkat permanent border crossing for Thai and Cambodian tourists. This measure excludes Cambodian workers entering Thailand for employment purposes.
According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant Commander Noppharoj Siripariyapong, Commander of the Chanthaburi Marine Corps Task Force, issued an urgent letter to the Immigration Bureau Chief of Chanthaburi Province. The letter requests the suspension of tourist movement across the border crossing.
The decision follows the declaration of martial law in Chanthaburi Province, particularly affecting Khlung District, Pong Nam Ron District, and Soi Dao District. Under Section 5 of the Martial Law Act 2004, military officials are granted authority over civilian officials to maintain peace and order, requiring cooperation from all civilian agencies.
The suspension is a response to threats from Cambodia that pose risks to the safety and property of Thai and Cambodian citizens. All civil servants are urged to continue their duties in line with government regulations. The directive specifically calls for the Chanthaburi Immigration Checkpoint to halt Thai tourists traveling to Cambodia and Cambodian tourists entering Thailand at the specified border checkpoints. However, Cambodian workers are permitted to enter for work, and international trade continues unaffected.
This suspension is effective from 7 June 2025 until further notice, and relevant authorities are advised to take necessary actions in compliance with this directive.
