Fire Devastates Synthetic Fiber Factory in Bang Pu, Takes Over 7 Hours to Control

Bang pu: It took firefighters more than seven hours to bring a fire under control at a synthetic fiber manufacturing plant in the Bang Pu area, destroying the five-story building.

According to Thai News Agency, a fire broke out at the New World International Limited Partnership's synthetic fiber manufacturing plant on Sukhumvit Road, Soi TJC, Bang Pu Mai Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Prakan District, at approximately midnight last night. Dozens of fire trucks from Bang Pu Subdistrict Municipality and nearby local administrative organizations responded and continuously fought the fire for over 7 hours.

Investigations revealed that the fire originated in Building 2, a production line warehouse, before rapidly spreading to Building 1, a five-story office and storage building for synthetic fibers. Due to the large quantity of synthetic fibers inside, which served as fuel, the flames intensified, engulfing the entire building and making firefighting difficult.

During the operation, officials discovered that the building's structure was cracking, and parts of the roof and floor were collapsing, with debris and building parts falling periodically. Therefore, they had to withdraw personnel from inside the building and adjust their plan to spray water from the outside, coordinating with the Dan Samrong Subdistrict Municipality for a cherry picker to support aerial water spraying to contain the spread of the fire.

Mr. Wattana Charoenchit, District Chief of Mueang Samut Prakan, along with the Deputy District Chief, inspected the situation and directed operations at the scene. He instructed all officers to perform their duties with caution as the building structure was at risk of collapsing.

Mr. Wattana revealed that the factory had previously experienced a fire in early 2025. At the time of the fire, it occurred during a holiday, and only one security guard was on duty inside the factory; no employees were on production shift. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still under detailed investigation by forensic experts.

Officials from the Bang Pu Subdistrict Municipality's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit said a major obstacle in controlling the fire was that some types of synthetic fibers harden when exposed to water. This requires personnel to dismantle and separate the materials before water can reach the hot spots. Furthermore, the building's structure suffered extensive damage, so they need to wait for engineers to inspect the building's structural integrity before personnel can enter and work inside.
