General Prawit Wongsuwan Assures Stability at Thai-Cambodian Border Amid Concerns

Bangkok: "Big Dul" (General Prawit Wongsuwan) has confirmed that the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border remains stable, asserting his belief in the capability of ground units to manage any arising issues. He refrained from commenting on the rising tensions in the southern border region or their potential connection to ongoing peace talks.

According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defence, addressed the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border, particularly focusing on the Chong Bok checkpoint in Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani province, where provocations were reported yesterday. He reiterated that the situation was under control and assured that there was no cause for concern, expressing confidence in the local units' ability to manage and resolve the situation.

When questioned about the possibility of these incidents leading to a third clash, Lieutenant General Adul emphasized the existence of established engagement rules, which he believes will prevent escalation. He expressed confidence in the capability of the units to handle the situation effectively.

In response to inquiries about the situation in the three southern border provinces, where incidents have been frequent, Lieutenant General Adul declined to provide comments, stating repeatedly that his presence was merely to participate in merit-making activities. Despite reporters' attempts to link the increased frequency of incidents to the upcoming negotiation process, Lieutenant General Adul chose not to engage with the press further, promptly leaving the scene.
