Bangkok: The government has reiterated its stance that exchanging benefits from the "Thai Help Thai Plus" project for cash is strictly prohibited, as it constitutes fraud. Such actions are punishable by up to 3 years of imprisonment, a fine of up to 60,000 baht, or both.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytale Laksmisangchan, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, highlighted that the government is cautioning both shops and citizens involved in the "Thai Chuay Thai Plus 60/40" project against converting their benefits into cash without making actual purchases. She stressed that this practice contradicts the project's intent and is illegal. The act of fraud, which involves deceit through false statements, can lead to a maximum penalty of 3 years in jail, a fine up to 60,000 baht, or both, as stipulated in Section 341.
The government has mandated vigilant oversight of the Thai Help Thai Plus initiative. Any detected infractions will result in suspending payments to the implicated shops, barring them from future government benefits, and requiring repayment of the funds. Additionally, information about individuals promoting the exchange of benefits for cash will be forwarded to the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau for legal proceedings. The public is encouraged to report any fraudulent activities related to the project to various authorities, including the Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Finance, Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, or the Royal Thai Police.
Ms. Ploytalee further explained that the 'Thai Helps Thai Plus' project is designed to support those impacted by the Middle East conflict and energy issues. The initiative aims to ease the cost of living, cut daily expenses, and bolster the grassroots economy while enhancing domestic spending through small retailers. The government covers up to 60% of the costs, with citizens responsible for the remaining 40%. She advised the public to remain vigilant against scams or offers that might lead to fraudulent activities.
