According to Thai News Agency, the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, was involved in a shooting that targeted Secret Service agents at the event. The dinner, attended by over 2,600 people, including high-ranking officials and media personnel, was thrown into chaos as gunshots rang out. Security footage showed a man rushing through the hotel's security checkpoint, prompting a swift response from Secret Service officers who subdued him.
The suspect was found with multiple weapons, including a shotgun and a handgun. He was apprehended before reaching the ballroom where President Trump and other dignitaries were present. A Secret Service officer was shot but survived due to a bulletproof vest. Allen, who is described as a teacher, was taken into custody and is facing several serious charges.
The incident has drawn condemnation from world leaders, who expressed relief that the President and First Lady are safe.
