Immunity Against Scams: Scamming People by Giving Them Income Through Likes on Social Media

Bangkok: Police arrested one member of a scamming gang that tricked people into believing they could earn money through social media using a "like in exchange for money" scheme, claiming they could earn 5,000 baht a day just by liking videos. Ultimately, victims were tricked into investing and lost hundreds of thousands of baht.

According to Thai News Agency, the fraudulent operation lured individuals with promises of easy earnings, enticing them to participate in what seemed like a simple online activity. The scheme initially involved users liking videos on social media platforms with the assurance of receiving a substantial daily income. However, as victims became more involved, they were deceived into making financial investments, with the hope of increasing their returns.

The police investigation revealed that the gang manipulated victims by creating an illusion of legitimacy and profitability, encouraging them to invest more money over time. As a result, many individuals suffered significant financial losses, amounting to hundreds of thousands of baht. Authorities are continuing their investigation to apprehend other members of the gang involved in the scheme.

The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of online scams and the vulnerability of social media users to such fraudulent activities. It highlights the need for increased awareness and caution when engaging in online opportunities that promise effortless financial gains.
