Koh samui: Koh Samui has achieved the top spot as the best island in the Asia-Pacific region, solidifying its reputation as a premier tourist destination.
According to Thai News Agency, Koh Samui was ranked No. 1 in the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards 2026 for the Best Island in the Asia-Pacific region. This accolade highlights the island's potential and readiness to welcome global tourists, offering luxury service standards amidst its pristine natural environment.
Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that Koh Samui's victory in the "Best Islands" category underscores its world-class tourist destination status. Alongside this win, Koh Samui's establishments and infrastructure garnered several top awards at the event. Notably, Samui International Airport secured 2nd place among the region's best airports, praised for its design that blends with nature and convenient passenger services. Additionally, five luxury hotels and resorts on Koh Samui were recognized in the top 10 for Best Beach + Island Resorts in Thailand, reinforcing its status as a luxury vacation locale.
Ms. Ploytalay emphasized the government's commitment to supporting economic growth through tourism policies aimed at income distribution, sustainability, safety, and improved travel convenience. Initiatives include infrastructure development projects to enhance connectivity with islands in the Andaman Sea and support for sustainable tourism practices. The government aims to position island-based tourism as a model for ecotourism, preserving natural resources for future generations.
