According to Thai News Agency, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hassan, in his capacity as the current chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), stated in his opening remarks at the special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Kuala Lumpur that, as ASEAN chair, Malaysia believes it must build greater trust among its members and ensure that dialogue remains a means of negotiation despite disagreements, as regional stability is a shared responsibility.
Mr. Hassan said that ASEAN should follow the lessons of the past, adhering to wisdom, unity, and trust, which are key to the region's ability to overcome various crises. ASEAN must do everything necessary to maintain regional peace and stability, because ASEAN's goals extend far beyond merely de-escalating tensions.
The Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Thai-Cambodian Situation began at 12:10 p.m. Malaysia time, which is one hour ahead of Thailand time. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, the Foreign Minister of Thailand, represented the country at the meeting.
