Bangkok: Negotiations to purchase the World Cup broadcasting rights are still stalled due to price and cost-effectiveness issues. The Minister of Tourism and Sports revealed that he has not yet spoken with private companies regarding the purchase of broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He is unaware of the current stage of price negotiations, but believes the issue remains unresolved concerning pricing and cost-effectiveness.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, addressed the decision to purchase the broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that the government has not yet consulted with the private sector. Regarding whether the private sector has consulted with the government following reports that they would purchase the rights, he said there has been no contact yet. He added that the government has previously stated that if the private sector purchases the broadcasting rights, it will be a source of revenue for them, and the government is willing to support that. However, he is unaware of the stage of price negotiations, but believes the current issues concern pricing and cost-effectiveness.
