Royal Thai Navy Chief Ensures Tight Border Security Amidst Regional Developments

Chanthaburi: The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy is taking proactive measures to secure the border areas of Chanthaburi and Trat provinces, confirming that no border checkpoints will be opened. According to Thai News Agency, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy confirmed that border security in these provinces is on standby following the movement of T-59D tanks from China to Cambodia. He firmly stated that no border crossings will be opened. He also revealed that the first frigate has been awarded to a shipbuilding company and that the second is expected to be constructed in fiscal year 2027, adding that the project is "on the track." Admiral Pairoj Fuengchan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, addressed the recent visit to Vietnam by Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defence, alongside other military leaders and the Prime Minister. He mentioned that the Prime Minister had already communicated with the media on the matter. Regarding the progress of the frigate p roject and the selection of a private company, the Commander-in-Chief assured that it would be finalized within the month. When questioned about the delay of the second frigate project to the 2028 fiscal year and its potential impact on the Royal Thai Navy's plans, he reiterated that it was "on the track." Concerning the delivery of T-59D tanks from China to Cambodia and their possible deployment near the border in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces, the Commander-in-Chief assured that they are prepared and stressed that border security remains stringent. He emphasized that he had never indicated that any border crossings would be opened.
