Prime Minister Discusses Budget Transfer Bill with Senate

Bangkok: The Prime Minister presented the draft budget transfer bill to the Senate, outlining the Budget Transfer Act for Fiscal Year 2026, which totals approximately 10,328 million baht. The Prime Minister, alongside the Minister of Interior, emphasized their openness to suggestions and concerns, underscoring the need to utilize the funds effectively for the nation's sustainable benefit.

According to Thai News Agency, this budget transfer bill passed all three readings in the House of Representatives on June 25th. Its core objective is to reallocate budget funds from various agencies to a central reserve fund designated for emergencies or essential expenditures. This fund aims to address crises and support urgent national requirements.

The criteria for the budget transfer were explained by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. The criteria include two main parts: recurring expenditures that are undistributed and non-essential as of June 2, 2026, such as seminar or overseas travel expenses, and capital expenditures not tendered or deemed unnecessary by June 2nd.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ekniti Nitithanprapha, provided further insight to the Senate on the government's budget management for the quarter. The Prime Minister assured that the 2026 budget allocation is designed to maintain public services and state welfare support. He sought the Senate's approval to use the budget to advance the Thai economy efficiently, affirming his openness to Senate feedback for cost-effective and sustainable public benefits.

After his Senate address, the Prime Minister was asked by reporters about an investigation involving the Department of Local Administration civil servants accused of exam fraud. He refrained from commenting, smiling at the inquiry. Similarly, he chose not to address questions about a NIDA poll showing a decline in his popularity, citing a meeting with an ambassador at Government House as his next engagement.
