Prime Minister’s Visit to Phuket Criticized for Lack of Genuine Action

Phuket: "Pakamon" hopes the Prime Minister's visit to Phuket won't be just an event.

According to Thai News Agency, Pakamon Nunanan, spokesperson for the People's Party, emphasized that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul's visit to Freedom Beach in Phuket should go beyond mere formality. Addressing the intimidation faced by People's Party MPs from influential figures, she urged genuine attention to their concerns. She expressed disappointment over the cancellation of a previous visit and pushed for the Prime Minister to genuinely address the issue, as it is unusual for ordinary individuals to intimidate MPs who are scrutinizing situations. Pakamon suggested that influential figures might be behind these threats and called on the Prime Minister to sincerely listen to the People's Party MPs, rather than avoiding accusations of fear or turning the visit into a public spectacle.

Reflecting on the government's first mobile cabinet meeting in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, Pakamon commended the choice but criticized the government's flood relief measures as inadequate. She highlighted the prolonged hardships faced by Hat Yai residents, urging the government to visit the area with a genuine commitment to recovery, without the usual fanfare. She called for comprehensive economic stimulus measures beyond initiatives like mobile vendors or the "Half-Price Plus" scheme. Pakamon urged the government to utilize its resources and vision to revitalize Hat Yai, showing solidarity with the residents' struggles as the rainy season looms, bringing uncertainty about future floods.
