Lopburi: The Royal Thai Army has addressed a case of violence within a unit in Lopburi, announcing that disciplinary measures have been enacted against the involved soldiers, with criminal charges also set to be filed. The army asserts it will not shield those responsible for the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, the situation came to light following a Facebook post by Nam-Nichanan Wangkahat. The post indicated that a soldier from the 1st Special Forces Regiment in Lopburi Province had disclosed information regarding violence in the unit. An investigation confirmed that in August 2025, a senior soldier had secretly assaulted a junior soldier, resulting in injuries that required hospitalization.
In response, the unit conducted an internal investigation and enforced military disciplinary action. The soldiers responsible for the assault received a total of 45 days of confinement, which they have completed, and have since returned to their duties. Additionally, a 15-day detention was imposed on the sergeant and assistant sergeant on duty during the incident for their negligence in supervising the soldiers.
On the criminal front, the Lopburi City Police Station is in the process of further questioning, and the prosecutor's review of the case file is pending before charges are officially filed. Following the conclusion of the criminal case, a civil lawsuit is anticipated. Military legal officers have been assigned to monitor and facilitate the legal proceedings closely.
The Royal Thai Army reiterates its stance against protecting or condoning any wrongdoing, particularly violence within its ranks. It promises full cooperation with law enforcement and relevant agencies to ensure a transparent and fair legal process for all parties involved. Furthermore, the army has directed all military units to enhance personnel supervision, reinforce understanding of military discipline and human rights, and review existing procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
